About Barkley Baseball

Barkley Baseball School's purpose is to teach the proper fundamentals of all aspects of baseball by using specific drills to increase and improve the abilities of each "camper", and to promote a love for the game of baseball through professional instruction. Our camps consist of prayers at the beginning and ending of each day, and we include Christian Bible stories prior to lunch breaks. Our theme for camp is "TEAM CHRIST".

Founded by the Barkley family with deep roots in the sport, we aim to pass on the knowledge and experience gained through years of collegiate and professional play.


Dedication

Barkley Baseball School dedicates this camp to the memory of Bill Barkley, Sr. Bill was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a college standout at Gardner Webb and Lenoir Rhyne, as well as a minor league pitcher for the Washington Senators. Bill threw a perfect game with the Charlotte Hornets in 1953. He was inducted into the Lincoln County Hall of Fame and the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame. His legacy lives on through his family.

Played for the Cleveland Indians (1984-1985). All-Southern Conference at The Citadel. Co-founder of Barkley Baseball School. Expert in pitching mechanics and strategy.

Matt Barkley

Camp Director

Played college ball at The Citadel (1984-1988) and served as Player-Assistant Coach. Matt is in his 36th year as the director of Barkley Baseball School.

Retired Physical Education teacher. Former Head Coach and Athletic Director for Northview Middle School. Area representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

High School standout athlete at St. Stephens High School. Currently a student and baseball player at CVCC.
